Just thinking here at work. The older cars have so much more style than new ones. the Rolls Royce is the best example in the old days you used to see a monster grill with the sprit of Ecstasy up front standing prowd. the Jaguars used to have that georgous emblem of the big cat itself on the tip of its nose, and mercades had the sight placed perfectly for running over cats, dogs and (the 500point) little old ladys[:D]. i know its a safety thing but i really do think that with the tall over the top emblems you knew you were in a luxuary car!

I rode in my first Benz about a month ago, it just felt alot different then my bimmer. The hood seemed to stick way out and the emblem, well the emblem was really cool![:D] FYI it was an late 80's-early 90's 300e, man was it sweet.

Its the way of the world, laws and $$ are impacting car design. Mercedes, BMW, Jag, etc all are trying to sell cars so they try to keep the costs down, new safty laws arent helping. Im not saying safty laws arent good but it is hampering designs.

i think that older cars have a lot more character too
my car for instance is a 91 535i with some character,
sure i wouldn't mind having a nice shiny new bmw,
but with my car i can say i worked on it and took care
of it. its a different kind of ownership than a lease

I used to own a '66 T-Bird with tons of metal on the dashboard. It looked great but got hot as hell in the summer. The speedo was a long glass tube that turned red as you increased speed. It looked awesome. Still, I wouldn't want to get into an accident in that car. All that metal would be lethal. [confused] [xx(]

I think that people will preffer new
model BMWs until the time when they
age enough for their oldness to be
more or less irrelevant. Now adays
the fact that the car is "new" plays
a big role in consumer opinion about
the car. Give it 6-8 years and the style
will become more noticable and classy.

you tend to remember the good ole days, or the past w/ more fondness. unless the car happen to be a aztek, you'll grow to like the new radical design. i didnt' like the new e46 looks at first, but as soon as i saw one next to an e36, i loved the redesign, and became an instant classic. still love the e36 m but it's more in the fondness territory.. how i loved that car back in hs.. stuff ^^;;

A lot of older cars have more character than someof the newer ones. But character is something that shows up over time. It will take time to detrmine which of the new models of today will show their character at 15 or 20 years old.
