Ok, its not the transmission

Hey guys, My car goes into "limp" mode but if I turn it off and back on it goes back to the drive mode normal mode (whatever its called) . So I was told probably not the Transmission. Might be sensor?? Might be Tran's computer?? This is on my 87 735i , any ideas????? Thanks for any ideas!! O also, are they both real expensive?? LOL Like there is such a thing as an inexpensive BMW part!

The RMFD Control unit for that transmission is about $900.00. A rebuilt for that car is about $2400.00. May be time for a new car? I would have a mechanic check the fault codes and make sure what caused the limp mode fault before I did anything.
