Hello all...just a few questions as it is nearing the end of driving season for those of us who live somewhere with four seasons.

First, I am planning on finally getting my windows tinted on the E46 M3 and have chosen, through much reading at the "board", to go with Huber Optik tint. I looked at Tom's car and really like the look and % of tint he went with. Is there anything I should look for or be wary of when getting my windows tinted? I am going to Quality Glass Tinting in St. Louis, MO

Second, I have a few rims that are scratched and I am planning on taking my car to The Hubcap and Wheel Store in St. Louis, MO, this was recommended by my BMW dealer. I talked to them and they said the cost is $125 per rim and it takes about 3-4 days. Is there anything I should look for when getting this process done?

Last but not least, I want to get my car detailed. I had shoulder surgery less then a month ago and cannot take car of my car the way I want to. Therefore, before winter I would like to get a good wax and detail job. Any suggestions or personal experiences?

Thanks
Brian

Howdy!

1. Only things to really consider with tints are: The % and whats legal (if you're worried about being pulled for tint or not, or have medical clearance for something lower then your state's minimum legal tint %), AND, if the type of tint you want to get interferes with radio/cellphones. Reflective tint is usually the one that gives electronics a problem.

2. Sounds like a good price, and timeframe for the wheel repair shop. Shops here have the same price and timeframe as the one near you - good deal. Not much to look for here, just make sure they check to be sure the wheel is trued up, curb rash is cheap, fixing a bend is a pain. You could get them powder-coated while they are getting fixed if you were looking for a wheel color change of some sort.

3. Dunno about the detailing, I suspect you are looking for actual products to use. I just use eagle products, and turtle wax n cleaner, and do it by hand. At worst, take it to a 'hands/machine free' car wash, yo uknow the ones that use pressurized water rather than cloth/plastic spinning brushes that leave swirls.

Good luck with your shoulder, are you into physical therapy yet for it?

I would definitely pay a professional to detail it, its a lot of money but they can do a FANTASTIC job and will clean every inch of the car pretty much.

Thanks for all the info! I am starting therapy tomorrow so hopefully I will be back playing golf asap! I don't know if you are a doctor or therapist but I dislocated my left shoulder three times, had surgery, and went through therapy. Then, I dislocated my right shoulder Aug. 25 and had surgery Sept. 8. The body is an amazing thing, but then again, so is my car. [;)]

1. Huper won't have interference problems. That's one of its advantages over its competitor V-Kool. Tell them to watch out for the dot matrix. Particularly on the back window, look at the edges. You'll see a ton of dots. Tint has troubel sticking there. They need to make sure they get rid of excess water when installing it. My shop put my tint on partly, then peeled it back and got rid of the excess moisture, then put it on for good. Finally, they used a paint scraper (plastic) covered in tissue to squish out all the moisture to make sure no bubbles or water was under there. When it dried, the tint stayed on in that area much better than most other tint jobs I've seen.

2. Price sounds about right. Must be a busy shop cuz most can do it in 1-2 days. I guess another day or two doesn't really matter though.
