I think i'm in love!
Since i've moved to Charleston, i befriended this guy and he let me play with his two.....
...Maybachs. He is a Mercedes service tech, so he can do to what ever car he wants to do. ....ahem, i'm in love with the car, not the dude, mind you.
First he took me through the sales room devoted specifically for the Maybach. Huge flat screen tv with surround sound, nice meeting table with plush chairs. Choosing the colors and options, you go to a chrome accented cabinet and pull out drawers with individual metal blocks representing color, fabric, wood, etc options. In a glass case across the room are certificates and models and such. One piece of paper shows the number order for the particular car for show, being the number 1!
Let me first tell you, this car is nothing until you actually can touch it in person. The exterior design isnt much to look at, but everything else about the car outweighs that ten fold.
The power this thing has is unreal. V12 biturbo really pushes this thing along but its amazingly quiet at the same time.... hell, everything is amazing about this car.
The most destinguishing factor of the Maybach is the interior and features.
The first one i messed around with was the 62, which is the limo style one with partition. First thing you notice, is how wide the back door is and how it opens full 90 degrees. You can open the door to any angle and it locks in place. Next is the leg room. Sitting down in the most comfortable car seats i have EVER sit in, the recliner lays me out and being 6'2, i have room to strech out!!!. The sun roof is to die for. I'm sure some of you have heard descriptions of some of the options before, but let me just clarify - add the options up and you become dumb struck sitting in the car. Sun roof can be clear, opaque (in a split second), and then it can close internally. Not to mention, once closed, you can illuminate the ceiling as well. while seated, at the touch of a button, the doors can close, all window shades can close, glass partition shield as well. In the $30k optional partition are the lcd screens and below that is a console with a load of compartments. Betweend the seats are more compartments, cup holders OR it can be wine bottle and glass holders... some cool switch thing the door does, depending on which button you hit. Speaking of buttons, this car had too many. i mean, you need all the buttons to do all the stuff it could do, but damn. Anyway, more in the console, raise the arm rest and swing out, down and unfold the two way adjustable lap tray. below the arm rest further is the chiller box. lastly, like i even know if that was all, just a note about the lighting options, i cant even remember them all. And this was only the back seat.
The car we took out for the test drive was the 57. Being shorter and center partition not being an option, it was more like an S class on heroin. Beautiful in so many ways, it had to be wrong. He hands me the key and says put it in your pocket and get in. As i put my hand on the door handle, the car unlocks. Cranked up the radio and was loud and clear enough to fill the Mercedes 20 port service center with music. Put my foot on the brake and touched the button on the shifter, the car started. Im not going to describe everything in the front seat area, just imagine there being everything youd want, plus. So we took it out and get rolling.... i was in awe at how quiet and smooth the ride was. We tested suspension on speed bumps and different speeds with all the suspension options and ride heights, got the tires singing on a 180 degree on ramp, turned ESP off and peeled out, demonstrated highway speed power, tested distronic system to its limits, did a couple emergency braking tests... i dont know if i could ask for more in a car. i actaully walked away from the place with a smile on my face much like one would have after he/she just got laid.
These two cars reside there most of the time, so i will have a chance again to get plenty of pictures and videos! Just thought that i woul dshare this with you guys!
