Well the new 3er is here in Germany, arrived over the weekend and I attended the launch party. Here are a few pics of the next gen 3er. Looks a little better up close, but I still like the E46 more.

LOVE the button to start the car...I think that's really neat!

The design is growing on me as well...I know this car will be just as hot as the other recent new BMW models, they just take a little time to grow on you!

Overall, I'm very impressed and cannot WAIT for the debut of the coupe design!

The picture of the 325i has a sport kit (front spoiler) on it made of carbon fiber, I guess that is an option for the new 3er. BTW the price of the 325i pictured is 49,610 Euro, that 66,656 US dollars.....pretty freaking expensive for a 3 series.

Lol, I'm sure a 325i is not gonna cost $66,000 dollars (hopefully!) even with a bodykit!

No wonder I was wondering why that one looked the best...the color and the bodykit just complete it very nicely...

whats with the Tach? 4700RPM??? that seems weird.
One of the cars is a 320d...the diesels don't rev very high.

Thanks for the pics, Tool. Way cool.

The new 3 looks cool, but I'm going to have to see it and maybe take it for a test drive....I'm not running out to order one like I did the E46 in the first month of production. It just doesn't grab me that way (not to say it won't when I warm up to it).

It's been said before, the exterior does look nice. It is happily not as controversial as say the new 5 or 7...but what is up with the front grill/bumper design? It is like a bad Audi copy and looks like a big, old lip just hanging down. That is not a "timeless" fluid design. The front is going to look even more chopped up when our "beautiful" square American licesne plates are mounted there. Ghastly!

Yes. it has a Start Button. We have that on the Alpina...and yes it is somewhat cool, but it is just a gimmicky feature. You still have to put the key/electronic key in the ignition/cut out before you hit the start button.

I honestly do Not believe anyone on this board who can say the interior design and materials (plastics, plastics and more plastics) look rich and expensive. Love those pressed board looking doors (sourced from the Former East Trabant?), and those rinky-dink door handles. Obviously the dash materials were created from melting down My First Sony boombox I had when I was 12.

I had a 1989 E30 cabrio and thought (and still think) the design and interior was awesome. When the E36 debuted, I couldn't believe that they improved the 3er...and when the E46 came out I was totally amazed that once again the iconic 3er got better. I look at the E90 (especially the interior) and I feel sad, let down, cheated and as you can tell from this posting...very Angry. I don't care that both the new 325 and 330 have more horsepower...any Japanese, American, Swedish, French..... car can be made faster, but with the 3 Series it was about the package and driver enviornment. Nothing about the driver position or interior of the E90 says Sports Sedan or Sports Coupe. IMO it is a very nice German Camry!!! [:(!]

I'm glad BMW finally made the dual climate control an option again. Overall not a bad looking car.

Awesome photos Mike, thanks for posting.

Damn beat me to it, Yeah diesels rev up to a maximum of like 5k rpms.. which hinda sucks, you get all this torque, u shift and its gone =/

Nah dude, diesel engines are AMAZING when it comes to torque. They develope RIDICULOUS amounts of torque compared to gasoline engines and peak torque is usually available under 2,000rpm. They just don't accelerate fast because diesels produce way more torque than they do horsepower, but they're trying to change that when it comes to diesel engines in cars.

Newer turbo diesels are making around the same HP figures as gasoline engines too.

actually diesel powered cars are as fast in acceleration (talking of 10s of seconds differences only) as gazoline powered ones. i got spanked by 2 or 3 330d just lately. you know, they have 180-204 hp so we are pretty much the same. but the torque had them take off so fast...
then on the highways they accelerate so fast that a adequatly powered gaz engine will not follow.
on thing is for sure: my next is going to be a diesel. less fuel consumption, more power. great stuff!

in regards to the new 3er, i am indifferent. the exteriour styling is neat. i like the head lights and look the front creates. the back however is difficult. looks somehow like a hyundai or kia or sort of.
interiour sucks. so boring...the bulky area for the nav system sucks in the 5 series and sucks even more in the 3er. but guess what, w/o nav you get rid of this mountain and it looks even worse. they did a really poor job there. quality is fine. i sat in it and tried everything out. no complains there. but functionality really got lost on the way. the dash is no more drivers oriented...that is so poor...that car is a "no-buy"

I love it, especially with those rims on that 120d. Dare I say better than the E46?

And I agree, the interior doesn't exactly look posh, but modern BMW interiors just aren't that nice, I have to say. My friend's X5 is awful inside, seriously the materials feel worse than my dad's Camry... and the leather feels like plastic. Oh well, this isnt supposed to start a flame war, so don't start one.

The only thing I don't like on the exterior is that BMW seems to be moving away from the dual headlight design, I mean they're still there, but they're hard to see. The e46 lights were shaped like 2 headlights, but not this. The 7 series facelift has done the same. [nono]

E90 = teh secks!

i don't think it'll take too long to grow into the e90. the lip spoiler is hot, altho i don't know if i like the carbon fiber trim. (might work w/ gunmetal gray they had, but i don't know about other colors..)

the starter btn, that is just too cool for school
