Hello,

I own a 1993 E36 318i with M42 engine. In Thailand, where I live, premium gasoline is on it's way out due to government promotion of E10 and E20. Even though many have told me that my car should do okay with E10, the quality of the fuel here could be an issue. Also, BMW has not certified my car to use gasohol.

Currently, NVG is being promoted of private care use here in Thailand as well, and even though I hate the idea of a big tank in my trunk, I need to find out if it is possible to convert my car and engine to run on NGV (Natural Gas for Vehicles, which is in gaseous form as opposed to LPG).

Advice and anecdotes appreciated. Thanks.

Update

Well, to my surprise, I was able to get very good and clear info from BMW Bangkok, to answer my questions.

First, they confirmed that I can convert my car to NGV or LPG.

Second, they assured me that my 1993 can use E10. There is only one small rubber hose in the fuel line that will have a shorter lifespan.

I wish I'd learned this earlier, but I hope this information helps others on this forum.
