[:(]

The car is what, like 2 weeks old?? Spouse started her up this morning (all is good), got down the street, and of course onto busy Hollywood Blvd, and without warning...the cars just dies, and will not re-start!!! Can you believe it?

After a few minutes, it re-started, got it back in the driveway, took the key out of the ignition.....dashboard, Navigation, radio, interior lights and exterior lights wont go off (and the exterior lights were NEVER on). Speed and tachometer as well as fuel gauage needles were bouncing around too. Some kind of absolute electrical meltdown. Hal was there....I know it!

Called Roadside Assist (they were actually really good & pretty fast too). Had her towed to our local dealership. Very disappointing and sad!!!

C'mon BMW. This is a brand new $72,000 car (which to us is a hell of a lot of money). Shouldn't it go for at least a month before breaking down [;)]

Yikes.. Meteor storm or something, maybe sunspots? [confused]

Sounds very messy and expensive, hopefully it's just some sorta ECU mixup that a reprogram (or something easy along those lines) will fix..

Let us know how it goes, no one wants that sorta drama with a new car!

...........
you prolly didn't even get a chance to feel all of 355 horsies before it took a dump.. i hate to blame it on this, but i wonder about the US craftsmanship. my parents' 04 x also had it's run in w/ the ecu, or some other "brain of the car" card, where the car just started and proceeded to die. so we had it towed and at the dealership we had to get it replaced.

the car drives sweet, doing 90 in suv yet feeling solid as the best sedans. but rest of the bells and whistles aren't up to par. bmw def isn't at its best when it comes to electronics imo.. [:(] as w/ everyone else here, keep us updated. at least the sudden pooping out didn't cause any accidents or anything.

Funny you say that...we thought the same thing. There were tons of traffic lights, lights and signage out today in like a 5 mile radius of our house. Funky!!!!
Well, then I would assume interference from something.

Question - You don't live near any military bases or science labs? Or near any companies like GE, or the like?

No not at all....very residential area of Hollywood Hills.

What is going on with your 3er and the Ins Co. ? Have you heard anything? Keep us posted too. I def. feel for you. Look on Ebay...we have bought and sold some really quality, high end, low mileage pre-owned cars. Just ask lots of questions, and see lots of pics!

Def. sucks...but it is so amazing to drive. Actually...it is almost too fast :) In the city, it is hard to just gently take off from a stop, it is geared to haul ass right from the start. It actually feels faster than our Z8 Alpina (off the line)

That's sad to hear deutsch100. Hope everything turns out for the best. This should never happen to a brand new vehicle. It is even worst it happened to a $72,000 BMW.....Ouch!

The ECU is very german and I imagine built in germany or china - wherever bosch has a factory and cheap labor.
What Bosch products have ever been made in China? I didn't think they had any factories there. My Bosch DME was made in Spain and I find it hard to believe that Bosch would have anything built in China. From my experience everything I've purchased from Bosch was made in Europe, the USA or Japan.

it doesnt matter how bad the electronics are in a BMW, they will NEVER be as bad as the electronics in a Brit car.

Yeah Bosch do have plants in China... They manufacture everything from auto equipment to home appliances. It's the way things are these days! I remember when anything that said "Made in China" virtually meant "Stay the F*** Away!" But i'm sure Bosch applies their manufacturing standards just as rigorously in China anyway.

Sorry to hear about the hiccups, deutsch100. You have a Z8? Damn, I'm too jealous to feel too bad for you. hehehhe. My old clunker is in for a new transmission this week...$4,200 at 122,000 miles...so I'm not in a sympathetic mood. :-(

I hope yours gets fixed up quick. Be sure to let us know what they say happened. Solar flares? LOL.
