New Rev-Matching Autos; Your Manual Tranny Replacement?

Hey,

So we know that Formula 1-style manual transmissions have been around for a while, where you use paddle shifters to electronically shift gears, and the clutch is controlled for you by a computer.

But recently, manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, and others have equipped select vehicles with regular automatic transmissions that can rev-match on downshifts, and respond very quickly to the paddle or button shifters.

For example, the new BMW 335i Coupe in automatic transmission can do this, and has optional paddle shifters for manual shifting (standard on Sport Package). Do you guys see this new feature in automatic trannies as a final convincing factor to replace your regular manual transmission?

Thanks,

I don't track my car. As such, the performance bonus of those automated manual trannies has little practical purpose to me. It all boils down to practicality. If I want to be lazy, I buy an auto. If I wanna have fun, I buy the manual that has an actual clutch.

I'm with codex - I own two manual cars and will most likely continue to buy them. I would think that maybe in the future I might consider an SMG.
