I've seen it at the LA carshow this and was really impressed by the design. Definitely a winner for GM.

This will be the start and a small rise again of GM if they get this car on the streets and if it starts out running most cars on the road again.

Build quality doesn't matter so much to people who buy these kinds of cars. It's not a BMW and the demographic that this car caters to isn't looking for BMW type build quality. With that type of build quality comes a high price, and a high price is unacceptable for this type of car. Just look at the new Mustang - it's interior build quality is crap.

Yes, it needs to have decent build quality, but it doesn't need to have build quality like an Audi or BMW to be a successful car. It wasn't the build quality that killed the 4th generation Camaro.

It doesn't need the build quality, but it should. Build quality is what killed the American auto industry in general. Where do you think the rep of unreliable and crappy came from? They really do make crap cars. We like to joke about Hyundais and other cheapy cars like that, but to be honest, the build quality in a Hyundai now is threatening the Japanese. Certainly blows away the basic American car. Sure Hyundai doesn't make as much money by increasing it's build quality. However, for a newer company like them, it's more important for them to establish a reputation as a car you can count on. Like the Japanese did.

The domestics are now in the same situation (rep wise) that the Koreans were about 10 years ago. They still sell a ton cuz of rentals and blind patriotism (also big trucks/suvs), but they need to adopt the attitude that they're underdogs and offer more to the consumer in order to gain their rep back.

I agree with Codex. The honda civic costs about the same as a Chevy Cobalt (or limestone or whatever its called). Yet I think anyone who has been in both cars would agree the Civic is much better quality. The cobalt is a big step above the old cavalier, but it's an incredibly bad purchase compared to what else you can buy.

Anyone who buys the big three because of patriotism couldn't be more wrong. I think there was an article somewhere that the new toyota corolla has more domestically made parts and materials than the highest domestic content GM.

No doubt this camaro is good looking, but it's going to be poorly designed.

i love the new camaro. in a magazine i recently saw pics of how a new firebird could look like. and that was even hotter [thumb]
Except GM has been adamant that they will NOT be bringing the Firebird back. The GTO will be redesigned on the same platform as the new Camaro and will fill the niche that the Firebird had.

Well, maybe the GTO won't ever be able to fill the Firebird's shoes, but at least that's GM's excuse for why they won't be bringing the Firebird back. [rolleyes] However, if not bringing the Firebird back means that more effort will be concentrated on making the Camaro be the car it ought to be, then I'm all for it!

I've seen the Firebird prototypes. It seems as though they are not GM, but rather photochops. Personally, I like the looks of it. GM (Lutz) has said the Firebird is gone forever, the name no longer fits the brand image. But who knows? If the upcoming GTO sells like the one they sold the past few years, and the Camaro is selling well, the Poncho dealers will be screaming bloody murder for a Firebird.
