I went to the Washington D.C. auto show yesterday, and I noticed that all of the new 5 series have no fan in front of the radiator. Why is this? When you open the hood on my car, there is a fan before the radiator, on the new 5 there's nothing but stabilizer bars in front of it. Does anybody know why they did this and what possible advantages/disadvantages it has??

About the fan...

The later model E65/E66's, in addition to the E60, have the auxilliary fan mounted behind the radiator. Also, they are getting rid of the clutch fan, for better gas mileage and power.

Almost forgot: It also creates a more even airflow distribution than if the fan were blowing through it, from the front; the fan hub is big enough to create a hot spot in the center of the radiator. Now, of course, that is no longer there. :)
