Yesterday my mom test drove the new 5 series. She test drove the 545i, which she liked a lot! She currently has an E320 with 4matic. We then went over to MB and test drove the e500 with 4matic. She liked the power of the BMW but HATES the technology. She was saying that it is way too advanced just to put the car into drive, I was like thank god you are not looking at the 7 series. The E-class is as simple as they come and she knows the product. What would you guys choose? I know it is a dumb question on a BMW forum, but I am interested in seeing what you guys have to say! I am really pushing for the BMW because I have one, like it better than the MB's and the quality I think is far superior to MB especially after I have seen the sh*t that car has put her through. My 330ci has not given me an ounce of trouble!

Yeah my mother made a comment about BMW's design. She is not at all thrilled with the way the car looks from the back. It does look straight up goofy and the interior is more cold than welcoming, which is a huge turn off. The E-class all around inside and out is a lot more of a welcoming car. The one thing I like about MB's is that all their cars look like a million bucks, but yesterday when I was at the dealership I was admiring the poor build quality of MB, like body panels not matching up, I have heard that is a huge problem with them which is just a hint of what problems they really have....

I'd take the E-Class over Any 5 series... the new E-class is just one Perfect looking Car. Like there is not one part of it that I'm like hmm well if they made that angle a little more.. nope :)

3series > CLK (and the CLk is one sexy looking Car too, just too pricy)
E-Class > 5Series
7series > S Class > A8 > LS 430

That's a tough choice. RIght now, I'm leaning towards the E simply to vote by pocketbook and hopefully force BMW to fire Bangle. I had a chance to check out the new 5. What a pathetic excuse for a luxury interior. Yeah, the exterior is open to debate (butt ugly to me), but the interior can in no way be considered a real luxury car. I've seen Hyundais with more luxurious interiors than that car. Looks wise, inside and out, the Merc blows the BMW away. That said, Mercedes' quality is falling like a stone. It's like Mercedes picked up Chrysler's quality instead of the other way around. Hopefully, they're getting around to fixing that since they at least acknowledge a quality problem.

Based on looks, I too would choose the Benz. The styling is slightly more conservative and the interior seems more sophisticated. When I saw the new 5-series at the car show, I really didn't care for the cheap looking knobs. Performance wise the BMW should fair much better over the Benz, but since both cars are fairly new, its too soon to gauge overall reliability.

i really like the way the new e class looks. while i doubt it'll drive as well as the 5er, would your mom really push the car to reap the benefits of the magical bmw engineering?

where as the looks of the car, its hard for me to see a lady driving a 5er, but i could totally see them driving an e class. it seems 5er maybe too techie for an average mom. (not to be sexist, honest.. i can't see my dad fully appreciating and utilizing the tech of the new bimmers.. either) as much as i'd hate, three pointers win this vote.
