www.autospies.com shows a "memo" saying the new 3 series will be intro'ed at the Geneva Auto Show in March and will be available in the summer (2005).

From what I've heard, that means the 4 will be out in winter or spring.

If that memo refers to Europe, then I've also heard that US intro's are 6 months later.

On an up note, there was a thread here about the new ///M3 will not be a ///M4. BMW decided to keep its "3" designation because it has too much reputation. It will have a 4.0L V8 with 400hp. 100hp/L...thats awesome for NA.

this is something i got a long time ago from this board, kept it on file, shows no ///M3

There will be a 1-7 series indeed...

The Even number series will be the Coupes, the Odd numbered series will be the 4 doors, or wagon/hatch models.

1 Series - 2 door hatch, 4 door wagon (not to be sold in the US reportedly.)
2 series - 2 door cabrio, 2 door coupe, M2
3 series - 4 door sedan
4 series - 2 door coupe, 2 door cabrio, M4
5 series - 4 door sedan, M5
6 series - 2 door coupe (2+2), M6
7 series - 4 door sedan (or iL for limo if you prefer)

I think the odd and even number designations is a great idea (i.e. 3 sedans, 4 coupes, 5 sedans, 6 coupes, 7 sedans, etc.) is a great idea. But I think they should just keep the M3 name for the sake of calling it an "M3" (regardless of whether it's a Coupe or a Sedan or a Convertible...i.e. call it a M3 Coupe, M3 Convertible, and M3 Sedan if there is one).
Although "M4" does sound good, too!
