Fortunately, it wasn't by "X to the Z: Xzibit."

My headliner was falling down (foam dissentigrates after 13 years. Who knew?), so I took it out and put in some black suede. Here are some pics of the process:

After much finagling and seat moving, I finally got the ceiling out of the car:

Mmmmm... Bare metal and loose hanging wires. I drove it around for a week like this, and by the time I put the ceiling back in, I had gotten used to the sunroof control hanging down. The first time I tried to move the sunroof after I got it put back together, I imagine I looked like an idiot waving my hand around in the air and groping at something that wasn't there.

Got the old material off. This was before I cleaned off the old foam, which took a while. You should see the pool table now. It's going to suck when I get around to cleaning it.

And it's back up. Yay. There is some overspray from the glue on it that I need to clean off. It acts like it's going to come off fairly easily, I just don't know how to clean suede.

I love suede. Some people may think the black/tan combo is tacky, but I think it's hot, and thats all that matters, right?

My dad took some pictures while I was working on gluing the suede to the ceiling. If he emails those out, I'll upload a couple of that process, too. He was also a lot of help gluing the suede to the roof.

My friend washed her car today, so I went over to her house to help and wash mine. And take more pictures of my baby.

Looks like a lot of work. Nice job. Nice car too.
Did you use real (leather) suede or ultrasuede? They make special stuff for cleaning real suede but basically you do a lot of brushing.

Thanks guys. It was a great bonding experience. I really think it brought us closer together. I mean, I always have those thoughts of what if I get hit from behind and she gets totalled? Before, I thought, well, it wouldn't be such a big deal. Sure, I'd miss her, but I'd get an E30 coupe and have tons of fun with that. But now, I think I might cry if she got hit, and the 5er class is totally outweighing the extra fun of the 3er. At times, I just feel like going out and just sitting in her for a while, not even going anywhere. But I don't because it's 90 degrees out and probably at least 110 inside the car.
