I just bought a brand new 2004 530i with premium, sport packages and xenon headlights. i was surprised that the stock cd player does not play mp3 cd's. how do i go about getting an mp3 cd changer to connect to this stereo? any suggestions? how about the sirius satellite system -- has anyone bought that and what do you think of it? do i need to purchase these items from bmw dealer or can i get other units from the general marketplace that will interface with the existing electronics?

thanks for any input.

mp3 and serius radio

i own a 2004 7 series and could not believe it... the two questiosn you asked are my same questions. i have a "prewired" Sirius radio package, yet no ONE knows what the hell is going on with it or when it will be available. and even worse, the MP3 situation. have you heard ANYTHI from anyone about this? i went to a car show and the BMW people gave me the number for BMW marketing, but i need to call them and have not yet. i cannot believe of all of the gadget son this machine and they do not have a harddrive MP3 player, much less the CD changer capable of reading them... and of course, you cannot put an after market unit in there becuase the whole system is proprietary. i hope you have heard something, let me know. i will post again if i do not hear back and then call the marketing people.

Really? How can you tell.

Check out openbmw.org, from there you can find a great deal of information regarding the I-Bus. Lot's of people have done what you are trying to do, but it my require a bit of technical skill.

BMW isn't taking very good care of their people I guess. Check this out;

The BMW iPod adapter provides a direct connection to your car stereo. Once the adaptor is connected, your car stereo buttons will control the iPod (including steering wheel controls if you have them), the iPod will be powered and charged, and the sound will play through your car stereo system. iPod TEXT will be displayed on the stereo if your stereo has text capabilities. The unit also offers access to special extended features and the ability to directly control the iPod interface itself. This is the best iPod car adaptor kit available on the market.

The Neo SP kit includes a cable that plugs directly into your iPod. The cable on the other side of the kit plugs directly into your vehicles CD changer port – there is no FM modulation. You get crystal clear, CD quality sound all while retaining the clean look of your factory stereo all with one simple cable that connects, controls and powers your iPod.

I have found these things at www.mp3yourcar.com and www.nanorider.com
