$32 for this wacky looking thing... isn't BMW ownership great? [bmwdance]

Question: Should I use some kind of sealant (like teflon) on the threads? I assume not.

Yea it's the hydraulic line that connects the clutch slave cylinder to the rubber line from the chassis.

Hehe yea the guys in my parts dept. Agree that it's one of the oddest looking parts. And to think, I paid 32 after a 18% discount! At least I didn't have to buy the 70 dollar 8 inch rubber line that is directly above this one!

If you went to your nearest parts store, they sell pre cut, and flared lines for like $3. You just have to have the bending tool... That clutch slave line is really fun to replace. [rolleyes] ...

If this part ends in a rubber line, did anyone ever think about using flexible steel lines? like these?
Yea a few companies actually sell braided steel lines to replace the rubber lines, but these solid lines remain. (Like UUC)

and that was actually what i was thinking about. not replacing the rubber lines but the tubing. why does it have to be tubing anyway?
Not sure, but it's another one of those times I'll assume the engineers had a reason for it. I think it is to reduce spongyness because of how rubber expands. That and I have a feeling they might have done it for heat?? Maybe not, I can't really see the point either but either way it was there before, so I'm going to keep it there.
