The Z4 message board at Roadfly has a thread going about Z4M rumors. Here area a few excerpts:
- reliable factory source reveals the SC factory is currently producing two MZ4's per day, they are being fitted with the S54 M3 engine, I don't have any other details
This next message is referring to the recent Z3 homecoming at the Spartanburg factory:
- At the Saturday night HC dinner party in the former Z3 body shop area of the plant (where they have had the last couple of homecoming dinner parties) they did announce that after this year's homecoming was over, that area would be refitted as the site where they would soon begin to assemble an "exciting new product".
But no mention of what that "exciting new product" would be.
Maybe MZ4, maybe something else. It's not a huge area, so the "exciting new product" is probably not a complete new model, but more likely a variant of something they already produce...MZ4???...maybe...
- While the S54 would be an easy drop-in fit, I don't think BMW can spare any at the moment. I have to agree with Terry that it would be foolish for them to use an S54 given all the controversy.
The tour guide at the factory slipped and said 'we aren't producing any MZ4's yet'. I said 'Yet?' and she just smiled. Rumor on the street is that it will be based on a 4.0 liter V8 and possibly built by an aftermarket tuner.
