Yes that is sad they do make some nice cars. I wonder how much that awesome warranty of theirs cost them? I would think with gas prices up their sales would start up. I'll bet Hummer is crying over gas prices?

looks like if Schrempp doesnt basically buy out half of Mitsubishi now, the company is dead... there's nobody else out there willing to flush money down the financial hole that is Mitsubishi...

yes its unfortunate but today theres just too many cars to compete with and mitsu isnt very popular. the designs are getting better but not too many people buy there cars. they focus too much on sports cars; 3000gt, lancer, fto. great cars but the way to make money is good family cars and vans.

Yeah, they really have no good sustainable product and I haven't heard anything upcoming either. The Evo is nice and all, but you can't keep a company running off of that thing. The Galant is nice and all, but you're swimming with the Great Whites of cardom there (Camry/Accord) so to survive, you better spin off a billion other models off that same platform like Nissan did.

I don't want to come across like I could solve all of Mits. problems because that is certainly not true. But I have long thought they have not been going in the right direction. I just found this article and I think this tells a lot about what I think the Mits. problem was. But I think it is just too hard to change such a well developed and cultivated market and convince us older, 30+, 40+, and so on, more conservative people to buy into the Mits. product line.

I agree, they needed to hit the more conservative segments. I think even the Gallant had some image problems because of how it was presented to the market years ago.
I'm so ignorant of the Gallant, I didn't even follow it. What was the typical buyer and image of the gallant?

I was under the impression that with the Fast and Furious 2 that their sales had rocketed. I mean their SUV dominated that race across the Sahara desert the EVOVIII is out. Whats next?????Is Subaru going to fold also? Is subaru a subsiderary of another major car corp. or do they stand alone? I would hate to see Honda dominate all, 'cause Toyota doesn't have a "car" worth a shit. I do like their trucks though.

This is the exact problem IMHO. "Fast and Furious 2" is not a strong enough buying group and probably lack $$$$ (proof is in the sales drop). Subaru is smart IMO, they are hitting the "Fast and Furious 2" crowd but they also know where the $$$$ is and they don't forget the 50ish couple in Colorado or the active 30ish family in Seattle.

I wonder if they did not try to differentiate themselves too much from Honda and Toyota. I guess the reasons are obvious why they would want to do this but I wonder if they did not come across too “rowdy” or “non-conformist” or “wannabe” or some other more descriptive word that I cant think of now. Hell, I don’t know but I sure got the impression it was more of a first-car-line.

I wish I could remember more specifics because I think it is interesting and now Mits. is starting to say oops, too many eggs in one basket.

Mitubishi are planning to close factories in Australia, but our government is threatening to make it as expensive as possible in an attempt to discourage them...so many jobs would be lost.

Lol, flash.

The problem with Mitsu is the way they present themselves, and I don't think anyone is falling for the new "we offer such cool cars" image. I definitely like the music in the commercials, though.

Either way, I'm a BIG BIG BIG fan of the Lancer. And I'm not a newbie front-runner, I used to be obsessed with the whole Lancer Evolution series. For those of you who don't know, the US version of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO, is actually the 8th generation lancer. I was a big fan of the EVO 7, that thing kicked ass. I hope Mitsubishi stays afloat, it seems like their new cars are much more purposeful, blending economy, practicality, and style into one nice affordable package. Mitsubishi's new image should make things okay, assuming they impose the image well on all of their cars.

Just means that anyone who currently owns a "top Model" Mitsu, better take care of their car or sell it.......If they mech problems I could only imagine how expensive upkeep would be. Truly sad.......I was discouraged to read that the EVOVIII took a Cobra to the cleaners but at the same time I had given them props. Oh well
