Another rumor: Mini will stop making Minis in a few years.
Is this true or not? A friend of mine told me that they're stopping because production costs way too much or something, a redesigned "cheaper" version will be coming.

Tell me it isn't true.

No way. They just came out with the Convertible line and they're supposedly going to give the MINI Cooper S TWO reverse gears. I think the MINI is here to stay...they are selling too well.
I want a MINI Cooper S after the lease of my G35C is up.

Mini should end production...... Then restart it with the dash gauges behind the steering wheel!!!!!!!!!! I would have bought one if it wasn't for that design flaw. [bash]

By putting the guages in the centre of the dash they are keeping with the tradition of the old car. You just get used to it after a short while.
My first generation mini has the horn button at the end of the indicator stalk???? Go figure

Well I know one thing for sure is the center gauges have cost them sales. I know two people besides myself (makes 3) who were turned off to the guages location. While having my car serviced I checked out the minis a few months ago back in march and a woman asked me why toyota and mini have speedometers in the middle. I told her I wasn't aware of any car having the speedomter in the middle besides this one, her reply was at least toyota can computerize it. (Prius???) She took a test drive anyway, If I were the saleswoman I would have showed her the door. This same sales woman wanted me to take a testdrive until I told her my car was upstairs for service and I was just looking (sitting in all of them and touching everything[:D]) Maybe theres a test drive mileage incentive or whatnot. They even have a soundtrack music selection that you can pick from for your Mini test drive.

I guess that makes 4, I'm sure theres more. But tradition is tradition, I bet theres people who won't buy a 3 series because its an I6 and not a V6; or a because its RWD and not FWD.

First of all, the MINI's center gauge is pretty hot. It's just the speedometer, the fuel meter, and the temperature guage (fuel and temp are at the bottom of the speedo). MINI did it to continue the tradition of the car...the purpose of the center speedo is simply so that all the other passengers in the car can see the speedo and can "enjoy" the MINI experience. Also, the tachometer is still above the steering wheel, and if you drive stick shift, your tachometer is #1 gauge, more important than the speedo. If you get the navigation option (which I would get), the speedo gets relocated right next to the tach.

The two reverse gears is true...I read this in a magazine. They said the purpose of the two reverse gears is that you can just engage the 2nd reverse gear and quickly whip into a parking spot (parallel spot). And yeah, as bahnstormer mentioned, there are these weird reverse driving competitions and they the MINI's are popular with those competitions, so this 2nd reverse gear only increases the fun!!

Oh yeah, one more thing for those of you who hate the center-mounted speedo...I just found this out. The tachometer features a digital display at the botom which displays your current speed, so center speedo problem resolved!!!

Lol, don't worry it's only revealing the information to you and no one else. It provides that specific user viewing the signature with their own specifications ONLY. So it is not violating any privacy or anything like that.

The Scions have guages in the middle. That's what the lady is talking about.

I'm not a fan of it either. If I get a Mini (thought about it. might if I move back to SF like the lil woman wants), I'm gonna get it with the navi unit which pushes the guages back over the steering wheel. Creates a Mickey Mouse look (three circles together, two on top row, one in the middle in the bottom row). I like that cuz I'm a Disney fan, particularly Mickey. Yes, I'm weird like that... but hey, I grew up near Anaheim and even worked at Disneyland.

All of you that think that the 2 reverse gear thing is true are suckers! That was published on april fools day, it was yet again another fun marketing ploy to get us Bimmerheads talking about the mini. I wouldnt disagree with having 2 reverse gears, it would be so much fun telling people I have a 7 speed tranny and 2 speeds are reverse!
