I knew it wasn't true I just had to confirm my belief, the odd thing is a Benz driver told me this at a Country club - apartently he had to much to drink.

A Mercedes driver at a country club prolly barely knows what he's driving himself. That crowd tends to buy Mercedes for the badge, not the car.

Yeah, I look at my uncle and his "friends." They have no idea what they bought, only that it's a Mercedes and expensive. My uncle didn't even buy his car himself (S500). He had his secretary order it for him. He knows I like cars (I think) so when he got it, he told me he bought a new Mercedes. All I could get out of him was that he got an S500 and it was black. He had no idea what options it had other than "power everything."

I find the same thing with huge numbers of Merc owners. That's not to say people don't do the same thing with BMWs but, overall, i think BMW attract more of the enthusiasts which is only natural.

I feel every car should have a manual transmission, it keeps your eyes on the road and you pay attention to what's going on. That's one reason that keeps me away from Benz because they use Autos and V6 engines. A terrible "domesic car" combination.

Perhaps he was thinking of the old British company, Daimler, that used to sell re-badged Jaguars and a few other things. Not that they were ever associated with MB, but at least they are a separate Daimler.

To say MB is no longer a part of Daimler is pretty amusing. Daimler-Benz created the Mercedes marque (named after Benz's daughter, Mercedes) and won't be giving it up anytime soon, and certainly not after taking over Chrysler.
