Yesterday, as I was driving around in the wonderfully rich city of Weisbaden Germany, I happened to catch a brand new dark silver Maybach. The pictures I have seen of this automobile do it far more justice than the actual thing. I had to do a double and then a triple take to to clarify that what I was seeing was actually a Maybach....I THOUGHT IT WAS A FREAKING HYUNDAI!!!!! Any car that is that luxurious should look "off the hook" from the outside especially at a starting price of 350k. Either that or the freaking rice jammer cars need to stay looking like rice jammer cars.[headbang]

PS.....I am entitled to my opinion because I CANNOT EVER AFFORD ONE[:(]

According to Car & Driver and Automobile magazine (Jan. 2004 issues), the Maybach is pretty much a dolled-up S600. The good thing about that, says Automobile mag, is that it's based on the S600. [read]

Personally, I agree with you. It does look frumpy and Asian-esque; it certainly does not have the same cache and head-turning ability as an RR Phantom or Bentley Arnage. I'd rather buy an S600 (better yet, an S55) and save myself 200K+. The bad-boy S-classes look a helluva lot better and are faster to boot--not that the Maybach is slow (0-60 in 5.2 for a whale like that is pretty damn impressive).

I've seen two already in Chicagoland. One was at super primo car dealer (Ferrari, Bentley, the like) and the other was downtown. One thing pictures fail to convey is how large the car is...the top of the engine bay almost meets my waist!
