My 1992 M5 has a problem with the battery going flat. The problem seems to originate from the heater control system. A leak down test reveals that the battery is leaking down at .18 amps where it should only be .03 amps at rest. I had a similar problem with a previous m5 and a electrical box had to be replaced somewhere in the vicinity of the micro filter. Can anyone help, why does this problem occur. I have removed fuse no. 20 in the fuse box, this enables me to store the vehicle without the battery leaking down.

The m5 has the climate control that I believe allows you to run the blower while the car is off (and it will periodically push air into the cabin during the summer so your car isn't incredibly hot when you get in). You can turn this off by turning the blower control to 0.

The system was designed so the battery won't be drained though... so I'd say your battery is either bad, or the voltage regulator in the alternator is probably bad. Either are cheap and easy fixes since the battery is under the rear seat, and the voltage regulator just requires you to take off parts of the intake to get to.

Thanks for the input, the battery and the charging system all check out OK. the problem seems to occurr as a result of a malfunction in a control module that is situated down under where the micro filter is situated. My previous M5 had the same problem and this module was replaced by the agents under warrenty. I would be interested to know what causes this problem, my current vehicle is not under any motor plan and I would attempt to remedy on my own.
