M3 Rims

I've been considering the M3 rims (chrome ones) for awhile now. Few questions, if i was to put the 18's or 19's(assuming 19's will fit the 330) would i have to lower the car or would it still look ok not lowered? Also i've noticed the rear rims on the M3 have a large lip but not the front, why's that and does it matter to get the larger "lipped" rims all around or should i only get the normal front rims for all wheels?
Thanks guys

Does your car have the Sports suspension? With 19"s it will sit a bit high if its not lowered, same with 18"s because you will have much thinner tires.

You'll have rubbing issues if you do get Genuine M3 rims, you're better off getting replicas.

no i don't have the sport suspension. should i just stick with 17''s and get something different if i don't want to mess around with lowering?

I'm riding 18" M3 rims 225/40/18 with absolutely no problems, and it looks fine. I *am* going to put a cup kit on it to drop it further, but it looks fine to my eye right now (Gotta do things in steps!)

Dunno about 19's - when I was getting my wheels I was considering staggered rims (18's in front 18/19's in back) and that would have worked fine, but I dunno about 19's on the front. Might need a widebody kit to get your wheel skirts out there further to hold 'em.

My ride height is exactly the same as before - I had 15" with 195/65's on it, at 18" with 225/40 the height is exactly the same - no change to my odomoter needed.

But that's just my experiences! [:D]

Section_8- i started thinking about them more after i saw pics awhile back of yours. i had never seen them on a alpine white. You said you liked the gun metal colour better then the chrome, why?
Anyone have comments on the wide lipped rims vs the section 8's? is it possible to have them?

Well, just personal preference gunmetal vs chrome. The chrome against the white was too.. bright I guess? I was lucky, the shop I went to had both in stock - they mounted 1 of each with the tire I got on the car while it was in the air so I could compare. The gunmetal just blends very good with the black sidings, and doesn't stand out as much in comparison. The chromes I think would look excellent on anything but white, (The darker the better) I think. For instance I actually saw the chromes for my rim style the other day on a Black M3, and it was utterly beautiful.. schweeeeet!

Heres a side profile. (I gotta get a better shot this weekend, it needs a bath, and I just put clears on it 15 minutes ago). BTW, gotta say that was the easist thing I could have imagined doing, the DIY said 30 mins, I think I knocked it out in 45-50, but I think I could do it in less than 30 if I did them ever again.

This board has really psyched me up about doing some more work on my car. Think after a cup kit I'm gonna aim for a Benfer CAI, and a good performace exhust, then call it quits on fancying up.. Well, Hagus mirrors too..

Thank you sir! I'm still low on the totem poll of modded cars here, but workin' on it.. :)

Hey I saw in another thread that you did get your car fixed! Man sorry to hear the $$$ involved, that's a sonofa***** for sure... Was there anything you could have done, or just one of those things that can go at a moments notice?

I like them but i've always been into the chrome ones (or on any rim for that matter). I can see that it might be too "bright" against the white, i guess i'd have to see them on though. Please post a pic asap of what your cars looking like now with the clears as i'm interested!! Where did you pick them up at and how much?

i personally really like those Z8 styled wheels. i wouldn't mind them on my car, but now i'm thinknig of maybe doing the Gun Metal M3 wheels just like yours.

That looks hot GGM! I like the rivets - I almost went that route too, but was thinking 'Dunno if I wanna bother cleaning those when the wheels start getting that break dust buildup'. Course that means I should just go buy good break pads next time I need em! [;)]

I got my clears from Ebay - OEM's, found someone parting out their car and got lucky! Whole set (front/back/side) for $130 w/ shipping. I don't think I coulda got ebay clears for that low of cost.. (wooot!)

frolf, gunmetal would look tight on your black car, give it a thick solid dark look! If you guys have big wheel/parts shops in your area, just go in and get them to 'model' the rims on your car to see what you think!

Section_8- The cleaning would be the only thing that would suck. Could you imagine around the rivets and stuff?! I like the aggressive look though. Your car's gonna be crazy! I like that someones doing some mods on and alpine white cause now i can see how things look!

Ditto on that! Sasha is getting a bath tomorrow so I'll post some pics w/ the clears and whatnot. I think it looks verrrry good on White, takes that amber out of the mix and gives it a cleaner look imho.

Here's a nicely done White sedan, just something for us to look at and dream about.. [;)]

(I almost got a set of TSW rims that look like the ones above, but without a big break kit, it seems too 'open' on the wheels..)

And check out this website. It's a local wheel company, their prices are usually stiffer than they should be, however they have an EXCELLENT gallery of BMW's on nice wheels. Something to stare upon and get ideas at least!

I personally don't like BMVs with chrome rims. I think chrome rims are more suitable for cars that are more concerned with luxury than performance. I feel that the design BMVs are performance driven, so the less bling the better- but to each his own. Section_8- very good choice on the gunmetal rims- I think they look very stylish and intimidating at the same time. The alloy rims look nice as well. I'm really glad that you went with the M3 rims instead of the TSW rims- those rims make the BMV look cheesy.[:D]
