This month's Consumer Reports did a review of performance cars. Many people have mixed opinions about CR's tests and ratings, but they got this one right - the M3 was the ONLY car to get the RECOMMENDED rating.
I don't have the issue, I am posting what I remember from reading the article. They evaluated the Audi S4, the M3, the Cadillac CTX, the Pontiac GTO , and I think I am missing one or two others.
In summary, the Audi got a slightly higher overall rating and came in at #1 with the M3 at #2 and the Caddy at #3. But those ratings, in my opinion, always put too much weight on price. The S4 is lower in price so that bumped it to #1 in the ratings. However, they did not give a buy recommendation to the Audi due to concerns about reliability.
The review of the M3 was extremely positive. The only bad thing they could say about the M3 was that the ride was a little stiff. DUH!! Come on, what do you expect if you are reviewing sports cars?
They really panned the GTO, basically saying it was not even close to the others being reviewed. Again, DUH!
