wow, never heard of this one before [scratch] Did you try contacting the dealer? Maybe they have a key that will work (I'm not familiar with your bmw, but you know sometimes they have different keys like one that works everywhere, and one that works only with the trunk, maybe they have a key that works without the battery). Sorry if I don't know what I'm talking about, just a thought [B)]

here is a little thing i found out once from AAA, nto sure if it'll work with this car but we have a 1995 525i in our driveway, well the doors wouldn't open and the battery was dead, so the AAA guy came and said there is this way to open the door by like turned the key all the way to the right or left (dont remember which way) for a little while (dont remember how long) and door would unlock, well it worked, try it on yours

If power door locks are powered by the battery (which I'm guessing), then when the battery dies, the power door lock feature won't work (which is how all new cars when you unlock their doors even when you use the key).
Try theBMWenthusiast's method, that should do the trick. It just seems stupid for the car to totally lock you out in the event that the battery dies.

[scream] okay, tried BMWethusiasts idea. didn't work. this baby just doesn't want to open. can't tow it because tow trunk can't fit behind car due to 70 foot oak tree that's in the way. tried breaking window, that didn't work either and can't get enough leverage through trunk to open lock. this is insane. these babies are bullet proof.

There's a nifty little tool called a "slim jim" that will pop open your car door in about 2 seconds. The AAA lockout guys and your local locksmith should have one. The police have them too, sometimes. Breaking a window should not be an option, as it's far less expensive to just hire a professional and have done with it.

This is an interesting technological loop-hole that bmw has overlooked. If the pros can't open it, take a hammer and smash the window. You will probably need to hit the window 2-4 times before it brakes. Remember to hit hard and in the same spot(this is very important, hitting multiple times in the same spot should do the trick)

Wow Big Daddy...you sound like this guy I used to watch on TV named MacGiver or something like that. To Funny. That is cool that the window wouldn't break. Did he try a bat?

[cheers] the good news, we finally made it into the car. yeah!!!! i am so amazed at how bullet proof these cars are. we tried the battery method, which got the lock open halfway, but not fully. so my husband, who mind you is 6'5" and over 250, managed to get his head and arm through the small hole in the backseat. he jerry rigged a broomstick with a hook on the very end, and managed to get it hooked around the front passenger door lock. he couldn't get enough leverage to pull up the lock, so i stood outside the door, with the key in the lock, and pulled up on the handle and turned the key clockwise at the same time, while he pulled up from inside, and low and behold the lock moved just enough to open the door. so needless to say, with a little ingenuity and a whole of peserverance we were able to succeed. i couldn't imagine what we would of done if this hadn't worked. as for the hammer method, he tried breaking the little window in back with a hammer, he hit it as hard as he good, only thing it got him were some lovely scratch marks on the window. it's great to know that bmw makes such great cars, but at the same time a little scarry that you have work so hard to outwit them. thanks for everyones input, we appreciated it. Gald you made it. Check your manual and see if there is an "emergency Lock out" method listed. If so post it so we are all aware of how to get in in case this happens to someone else!
