Be careful. I am British, and it pains me to say that the Freelanders have had big problems with valves going out at 50k, even engines needing replacement as early as 60k. Electrical issues also, and the air-conditioners are very weak. This is why their resale value is so low. Having said that, for an SUV they are pretty and fun to drive. Do your research and make sure you are getting one that has been fully maintained and well looked-after. You might get lucky and get a bargain, on the other hand you might be buying a can of worms.

Land Rover in General is not the most reliable brand. Besides from Hummer, I think Land Rover and ALL it's products score the lowest in almost every consumer based review.

The Freelander was canceled quite quickly (at least in automotive time). It was not known for it's high reliability..just it's electical problems, horrible A/C (as mentioned in the previous post) and lots of other issues.

Beware, and Good Luck [nono]

Not canceled, just renamed to the LR2 and returning soon.

I've seen the LR2 up close, and inside (we have a LR and Jaguar dealership right down the street). The LR2 is NOTHING like the Freelander. For a small SUV, the new LR2 blows the Freelander totally out of the water. IMO, there is NO comparison between the 2. I still think the quality will be crap, but from looks alone, and materials, the LR2 is a 180 degree turn from the Freelander.
