I just placed an order for a 2005 330ci configured the following way:

Jet Black
Black Leather
Aluminum Silver Cube Trim
ZHP Package (Performace Package)
Navigation System
Adaptive Lighting with Xeons
Heated Seats

After all packages and options including I realized I was high up there and about $1500 away from a M3 coupe with leather no other options however. What do you guys suggest I do?

Thanks

Go for the M3. At first I thought it was the 330 sedan, but if you're getting a coupe anyways you really aren't giving up any convience. But the only catch is, the E90 330 wil probably be out, but the M3 will probably be an E46...for better or worse?

Hmmmm, what to do, what to do. I'd just say test drive the M3 with the transmission you want. Many people think they want an extreme sports car but then they complain about the drawbacks. I guess it depends on how you're going to drive it and what you are looking for. If maintenance is a consideration, give some thought to the tuning necessary to the M3 engine and other stuff like tires, rotors, etc. The 330 is more a balanced car. Personally, I think I'd love an M3. Only you can say what you're looking for.

Happy shopping. I wish I had your "problem" of choosing between two great new cars. I WANT A NEW ONE!!!!!

Gee, I'd die for a 1999. [rolleyes]

I'd go for the M3, but that kind of car suits me. The race-derived technology throughout that car would definitely be worth the $1500, not to mention the more aggressive styling. However, as others have suggested, you need to choose based on what you are looking for in your car.

another thing to consider is that e46'ers are flodding the highways -- You will stand out a bit more with an M3-- and that's not really important to everyone.

Before making a final decision check with your insurance company about premiums. Some but not all raise the premiums astronomically once your car is an M. You would likely be happy with either car. According to road test reports (Bimmer, Roundel etc.) the ZHP is a better street car and the M3 a better track car. I found the ZHP more to my needs but it is your personal preference that matters. You have to decide which way you want to tip the scale. Try a test drive in both over the type streets you are most likely to encounter every day. Also, you should be able to get a discount due to BMW's factory to dealer incentives right now on the 330 but probably not available on the M3.
