Japanese or Singapore imports to NZ

What experience good or bad has anyone had with imports from Singapore. Some of my friends are saying "Don't Get a car from Singapore" due to the humidity there. I am trying to find some evidence relating to this or anything else.
I am hanging out for leather seats in a 320i around 2000 to 2002. Apparently leather
seats aren't obtainable from Japan.

I've been to Singapore many times and it is not any more humid than Houston. One thing that Singapore has is a lot of laborers who clean these cars immaculately every week. Also, with the traffic and small size of Singapore, you never get to go very fast, a lot of stop and go traveling plus many police for tickets. The main thing I would check out for is wreckage of the vehicle. That would be a bigger concern than humidity to me.
