iPod Access is Limited on 08 550i...is it me?

Just joined the site after visiting many times over the past several years. Took delivery on my beautiful 08 550i in early Feb and immediately connected my iPod on the drive home from the dealership. With over 4000 songs on my iPod and about 75 playlists, my issues are:
1. Scrolling throught the songs takes forever. I have never made it past the letter G during one of my local commutes (15-25 minutes). It is so slow that I wonder if there is something wrong with the system or is it just designed that way?
2.When I scroll through the playlists, it will not go past a certain letter; for example when I had 60 or so playlists it would stop at the letter M, now with 75 it stops at the letter K!

Is anyone else out there experiencing the same problem? Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

1.) iDrive and iPod have different buttons/programming. iDrive requires you to hold the wheel to the right while it clicks through each song, one at a time. Useful for scrolling through radio stations and CD tracks but slow for a 4,000-song iPod list.

2.) Playlists are loaded into iDrive when you connect your iPod to your car but iDrive has a certain a limited maximum memory it will allow for your playlists. Clearly, with 60+ playlists, you have exceeded the limit.

A 4,000-song music collection is very large. Maybe consider purchasing a second iPod specifically for your car that holds around 500 to 1,000 of your favorite songs for easier navigation and fewer playlists. Sorry, I just don't know a better way.

Thanks for the welcome and I will watch the # of postings. I also will upload a pic or two of this amazing car very soon.

Mr. E-Thanks for the opinion. Based on what I have uncovered on the streets, it appears to be precisely what you beleive; the number of songs & playlists being greater than the iDrive memory. A 2nd iPod is probably the way to go.

Or you could output sound from your iPod from the headphone jack, into your car. And then just choose what song you want by using the iPod itself. That is what my uncle does with his 750Li, I think.
