well, the chinese have been pirating/ plagarising auto designs for some time now. when u'r in china, u have the choice of either buying the named-brand model car. or, u can simply walk down the street to one of the domestic chinese manufacturers and get a cloned model- be it a grand cherokee or beamer or mercedes etc. <lol>
when i visited beijing back in 2004, i got to ride inside a cloned version of the jeep grand cherokee and have to say that they do a pretty damn good job on the clone. u can't really tell a difference. but, it makes sense, because they reverse engineer the cloned cars by dismantling the original one to study the designs- inside & out.
it's actually pretty hilarious, when u think about what they're doing- tho i know it's not good for business... maybe someday they'll clone the space shuttle or an f-18 or god knows what else...

China doesn't have any legit legal system. It's a communist country, remember? Yes, you can, and should go to court. I'm sure MB and the other companies have. The problem is getting any judgment enforced (if you can even get a decent judgment).
Against pirated dvds, it might not be as big a deal (even tho it's still quite hard). However, these car companies are almost certainly part-owned by the Chinese gov't. Good luck getting them to enforce a negative judgment against themselves.
