hp ratings

i'm kinda confused on the hp ratings that i've seen on cars from websites and other stats. are stock ratings wheel horsepower or crank?

the reason why i'm asking is i heard that its crank and that seems realistic (i saw someone on here who just did a dyno for their car, they had less horsepower then what the stat said so therfore it would be crank.)

but..

i was looking at cold air intakes for my car (328i) and the dynos (dyno results from the company) showed hp up around a little less then 200hp which would mean that my 193 hp stock hp rating would be at the wheels since an intake is probably not gonna add more then 8hp.

ahh2fh2!#!# i'm just confsed. can someone clear this up?

BMWs perform much better than their crank horsepower numbers suggest so don't sweat it when someone brags that they have much more horsepower than you do. Could mean squat in real life.

ah, well if you know frolf, he can prolly answer pretty much any question you have than. Of course, you're still welcome to ask here if it's more convenient tho.
