I was so suprise when I opened the hood when I bought my car. It was a 3 year old car so I was expecting a not so clean engine compartment. But it is so damn clean!

My question now is, how the heck they were able to clean it so well? Do you guys have any idea how dealerships clean the cars?

I clean my engine bay with every other car wash. Water, Zipwax and a small cotton towel does it for me. When I rinse off, I try to avoid the electrical areas and thoroughly dry the engine with a large towel.

I clean my engine twice a year a complete cleaning where I remove Air cleaner Housing and all other components. I use the air hose to remove dust in the hard to get locations and I spot clean in between. I use hot water to clean and cold to rinse. (PIA) but a very clean engine. I also wax inside fenders.

Good Luck

I have been doing this for several years and it makes everything under the hood shine. First thourghly clean the engine with "Simple Green" and rinse well. Then spray the engine down with "Armor All". Pay special attention to hoses. Do not worry about wiping off the excess. Just shut the hood and in a few hours the "Armor All" will have done its thing and your engine will shine. "DO NOT" follow this routine unless you plan to continue it every couple of months. The "Armor All" will attract dust, but it will spray off easily if you do it every couple of months. If your plans are just to do it once, forget about the "Armor All". I have never experienced any electrical problems and my 2000 528i engine with 97,000 miles looks just like the day it was new!
