I've heard a lot of stuff about the new M5. One thing that confuses me is that some say it's 0-60 will be 5.0 sec. (if this is true I'll be pissed) and others say that it'll be around 3.9 (if this is true I'll be happy). If it doesn't beat the E55 I'm seriously gonna be mad, but I'm hoping that it will. What have you guys heard about it?

The word on the street is a V-10 engine if the take-off speed is slower I wouldn’t be surprised (one heck of a heavy engine), but the performance will be outstanding though, 500 HP. The M6 is supposed to be faster though a V-10 w/550 to 600 HP, don’t know anything else about it (nobody knows)? I doubt the take-off speed will be slower though.

I've heard it has the best power-to-weight ratio in its class, one thing is for sure though, the M6 CSL is probably going to rape everything we've ever heard of.

All I know is that I was smoked by one on the Autobahn 2 weekends ago. I guess that they are not released yet, so it must have been a test run. I was doing about 130 mph and he passed me like I was standing still......kinda got aroused...is that bad?

One would think for the price and HP that the new M5 would be quicker than the M3 ?? I am naturally biased, but often blown away thinking how BMW gets the performance spces out of the M3...its wild !

That's not bad, it's perfectly understandable.

This is the best and most 'official' information thus far:

With a projected 0-to-60-mph time around 4.7 seconds, the new M5 is a full 0.6 second faster than its predecessor. Even more impressive is its 0-to-120-mph split, which is put at a sports car-like 12.7 seconds. Like all M cars, top speed is limited to 155 mph, although Richter hints it would be capable of something closer to 185 mph.

Remember the acceleration times are manufacturer numbers, which we can expect to be a few tenths slower than actual.

As for the comparison to the AMG, the Benz will likely be a tick or two faster in a straight line, but the M5 should be far superior on a race track.

If that V-10 is somehow still not enough for you, well there's always FI...

Can you imagine putting a SC on top of a V10 pushing 500+hp already?

or even sicker, a biturbo setup...

Then we could put a tail stabilizer and wings on it and claim that we don't drive to fast.....we just fly to low.[thumb]

If you put the wings at the wrong angle, you prolly could get some momentary lift in accellerated straightaways.

I can't even imagine the need for more speed w/ a BMW V-10 anyhow, who cares if it's faster then a MB SL600 or whatever the comparison car was, it's going to be 99% faster than anything else you find on the road short of a comparable 'supercar' or something just incredibly badass like a 911 twin turbo (I'd not even be sure about this one anymore..), or a Ferrari Scagiletti, or the likes.

Thing is the M6 will be even better, as it will be lighter than the sedan, I believe they are both packing the same V-10 though.

The Alpina Z8 somehow doesn't seem as desirable now with these new cars coming down the pipes soon.. [scratch]

If they can pull that off, I'm going to run naked through the streets.

Mark my words.
