How do I tell what engine the E36 M3 has?

I'm wondering what I should look for in the VIN to see wether it has the

M50 B30 engine or the

S50 B30 engine in it.


Also do you guys think 10k USD for an 97' BMW M3 E36 with 87k miles on it worth it?

Let me know, this could be the closest thing to me buying an M3 for a while.

10k is a really really good deal, and the 97 m3 has the s52b32 engine in it
