how do i know?

hey all how do i know which alarm system i have fitted to my 94' 316i coupe? the reason i ask is when i got the car i never got the key fob... so now im looking to buy one that i can code/get coded to the alarm iv seen them on e-bay going cheap, but theres loads of differant types so how do i know which one to get? the cars got, ultrasonics on the A piller, and a key switch in the glove box, plus the sounder under the bonnet, with the bonnet switch and so on... if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.... oh if anyones got one for sale

Normally I would suggest looking for the brain(alarm's CPU) tucked somewhere underneath your dash. If you're able to locate it, you can see what kind of brand/series it is. Sometimes there is also a label on the alarm's siren.

If you bought it used, have you tried contacting the previous owner?

well iv had the car for about 2 yrs now lol so dont think the previous owner would still have it.....

Is there a manual in the glove box for it? Other than Tom's recommendations that is all I can think of. I would think the previous owner would know what alarm he had installed, or you could try the dealer he purchased it from assuming they installed the alarm.

You can take it to a professional Audio/Alarm/Electronics store that does custom installs and I am sure they can figure it out. They should be able to tell you what was installed before and how it was done. I am just taking a wild guess, but it does seem possible....
