I'm sure it's a joke. One of my high school buddies and I were planning on doing this exact same thing to some old piece of junk import, except we were going to build the rear wing out of 2x4s and plywood and attach it to the trunk using big 90 degree angle brackets. We were also going to jam an actual Folgers coffee can onto the exhaust pipe to give it that "performance sound."

Unfortunately, we went to different colleges and never got around to doing it.
