Though it won’t make its official debut until the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, Honda has released pics of its new eighth-generation Civic that will be begin selling in Europe in the early part of 2006. The design is described as being a “wedge-shaped forward cabin” that we think probably wouldn’t fly here in North America though is most likely suitable for European tastes. There’s a lot of hidden utility built into Europe’s version of the Civic, with the hatch sporting rear seats that can be tipped up to form a second storage area or dive down to create a flat floor. Six-speed manuals are available across the entire range and the gas-powered versions also have an available six-speed automatic. Premium features like Vehicle Stability Assist and Electronic Brake Force Distribution are also standard across a line that features three available engines: a 61-hp 1.4L SOHC four-cylinder, a 138-hp 1.8L DOHC four-cylinder and a 2.2L deisel.
