Folks,

Has anyone tried the ICElink v1.1 for your iPod?

http://densionusa.com/merchant/merc...U&Product_Code=I11_BMW_T&Category_Code=IA_BMW

This appears to solve alot of the problems connecting an iPod directly to models earlier than 2002. However, this thing is expensive ($220) when you consider the alternatives (itrip, etc.) They have specialized kits for the year and model of most cars and especially BMWs, but I'd like to know if any of you had any experience before I shell out 2 C notes...

One more related question:
I have a 2001 325i with the standard business CD player. This doesn't have the standard input for mp3 players like the 2002 or later models. If I go to the dealer could they install my ipod with a direct connection like this dock appears to (stirring wheel control capabilites and all)? And which is the better value?

Below is a link with a review and photos..

I just installed my ipod today in a 328ci

I saw the steering wheel ready dock thing, but it was too much money.

So i used the RF modulator that came with my xm radio.....you can buy it alone for 40 bucks.
i put it under my cigarette lighter in front of the shifter but taking off all the peices...

i had to get a german radio antena adapter for 20 buck to it could plug into the stereo.
i ran the input for the device out the top of the silly kicknak cubby below the temp controls. i got a little rubber pad at bust buy made for sticking cell phones to dash boards without adhesives (it really works) and cut out two strips which i stuck onto the face of the cubby and the face of the ash tray, i lay the ipod verticaly on those and it sticks like majic without adhesives. and it is easily within reach of my right hand for operation.

it took me 9 hours to do because i had to figure all this crap out :(

the itrip doesn't work for me..

yeah it's pretty expensive, but I live in NYC and there's just too many radio stations. I also have the itrip but there is never a good clear signal and I always get alot of static. [thumbd]

I decided to go ahead and buy the ICE link. It connects to the steering wheel controls and I don't have to worry about static or changing the frequency settings ever again. I have enough music on my Ipod that it was worth the extra dough just so I wouldn't have to think about it again. I should get it within the next week, I'll let everyone know how it works..
