LMAO....if it wasn't your speedometer, I wondering if your rear wheels were totally bald, hitting oil patches. LOL. That's funny stuff. Is it adding miles to your odometer at the same frequency?

It adds miles to my car normally. I believe the problem is there the cable connects to the speedometer or the bearings in the speedo itself. I just need to motivate myself to tear it apart...

What gear was your car in when you were accelerating hard? I like the sound of the motor.
Emile,

My car was in 2nd, but it's an auto as you can probably tell [mad] that might change soom though [burnout]

The sound you hear is all intake. I have not modified the exhaust on this car in any way.

That car has a speedo cable???? It's not an electronic speedo? I can't believe that. Well, on the other hand, my friend bought a 2001 Ranger and it uses a cable. Ford is so behind the curve in some things. Talk about old technology!

My '67 still has the original speedo cable, and the speedo only bounces at speeds below 20 mph. I did have to have the bushings replaced in the speedo a couple years ago.

Weren't the manual SHOs rare? They only made them for a year or two, right? Sounds like it would be a big job to convert that car to a manual.

Yes, it still uses a cable... sadly enough.

On the contrary... Manual SHOs were manufactured from 1989 to 1995, autos were manufactured from 1993 to 1999. During the 93-95 years SHOs were in a transition, and the Manual acconted for 1% of Taurus production as the auto accounted for 2%

Interesting, I did not know that the manuals were that common. Sounds like most of them were actually sticks.

What's the deal with the camshaft problem in the SHOs? Something about welded camshafts? Was that only the later V8 SHOs?

Yep a fair amount were sticks, sadly many are in junkyards...

The cam problem is limited to the V8 only. Ford's design was faulty and the cam gears can spin off. If the engine was a non interference design like the V6s this wouldn't be a problem, but nope, once this happens the engine is toast. Getting the cam gears welded to the cam is really the only way to alieviate thep roblem, and Ford has a nice class action suit against them for those cars...

That's some quality stuff there mate. On-ramps are so entertaining!

Yeah you definitely have to install a manual tranny as there is nothing like swapping the cogs yourself for that perfect gearchange[headbang].

I would love to hit the freeway myself but at the moment my baby is in peices[bigcry]

One question: How the f*** did you hold the camera!!!? LOL

I'm afraid to push it on the onramps!! One time it was a little wet out and I was driving home from college and BARELY pushed it a little in 2nd gear (i mean, I wasn't trying to go fast, I just pressed the gas down the smallest amount) and the car flipped around and I was facing the wrong direction on a 75mph highway.

Yeah i know what you mean mate. My E30 is the devil incarnate in the wet - i've been caught out badly twice but thankfully have escaped any damage. The breakaway is so sudden and viscious, i think its a bit of a BMW characteristic. My old man used to have an E34 530i (V8) which was a great car but the same thing applied in the wet. They need to be treated with a fair bit of respect in the wet!
