I have been considering this you a few years now, what to do to my garage floor? I have considered epoxy, professional coating and or do it yourself kits, like the ones sold at Home Depot. There is also the options of the black & white checker board plastic tiles (currently on sale at Costco) and now the "diamond plate" look roll out mat also sold at Costco (17 ft long 7 ft wide) $179.00.

I have a friend who paid good money for an epoxy, done by a "pro" on a new but seasoned floor and it peeled. Peeling is my big concern and I have heard too many horror stories about it. What are some of your opnions and suggestions?

I have not done anything myself. But a friend has a 3 car garage/shop (complete with 4 post lift for his Bigblock 69 'Vette and '68 Camaro, SWEET!). He painted the floor using one of the kits. It turned out really nice with no issues at all for about two years since he did it.

We did the epoxy treatment at our shop and it did peel. I have heard that you have to clean the cement with muriatic acid before putting the epoxy down.

Thanks Kirby, do know what the prep was? Anyone else?
I had a quote last summer to epoxy my garage for $670. Figured I can do it myself for half as much.

Here is what he put down on the quote.

1) Pressure Wash & Scrub Floor
2) Acid Wash
3) Fill Cracks
4) Apply Primer
5) Apply Epoxy

I also found this great article with helpful tips.

I really didn't write that post very well. The floor did peel but we did properly clean the cement. The shop guys didn't listen to me and just painted the epoxy over the cement.
