fusible link

if a battery is put on opposite on an E34, does the fusible link fail or is the alternator & starter motor damaged? (everything else works as they are on a seperate fused circuit)

Are the alternator and starter still working? Have you checked the fuse box and relays. I doo not know if BMW uses fusible link like GM does?

The 5-series does have a fusable link, being that the part cost less than $1.00 it wouldnt hurt to replace it.
