Flywheel question (And some others)

I'm posting this here because it's not just related to MY car:

Since I'm replacing my clutch this weekend... can I get my dualmass flywheel resurfaced or not? I've read many places that you can't...


"DUAL-MASS FLYWHEELS
With dual-mass flywheels, resurfacing is not recommended on BMW, General Motors or Porsche. If a dual-mass flywheel on one of these vehicles is worn, it must be replaced."
How do I know that it's worn except for cracks and obvious things like that?? Bently says to inspect and clean it.

Also, BMW says you need a special tool - a "holding fixture", to hold the flywheel while the six pressure plate bolts are removed.

Is this a tool I need to get? I assume it simply keeps the flywheel in one place while you loosen/retighten the guide bolts - I would think the compression of the engine would keep it from moving.

Bently also says to use Microlube GL261 to lightly lubricate the clutch disc spline and transmission input shaft spline (has a bmw part number). Is this something I can buy from an auto parts store? Or will it be bmw only? Will moly-based grease work?

Lastly, does anyone know if Bavauto's complete clutch kit (It's the sachs 3 piece clutch kit + a few other things, like exhaust gaskets) COMES with new pressure plate mounting bolts? If not, do you think this is somethign the dealer will readily have in stock?

You don't need a holding fixture. The engine's compression will not be enough but you can keep the fly wheel from turning by simply stinking a long screw driver in one of the teeth wedging it between the ground and the groove. If it does require excessive force i would recommend using two screw drivers to make sure you don't break off one of the teeth.

I just used one with no problem. oh an make sure the engine is still jacked on the other side.

Your clutch kit will actually come with a tiny pouch of grease. Make sure you grease those grooves completely. hmmm wasn't aware of any special grease...

As far as resurfacing the fly wheel.... i used sand paper. Just make it smooth again by lightly sanding it down. But you have to make sure you sand it correctly. In order for the clutch to properly "break in" you can't sand it in a circular motion around the flywheel. You have to sand up and down (from the inside of the disk to the outside). Try to sand evenly and don't use sandpaper that is too coarse.

I would assume the kit would come with all new bolts. don't know if the dealer keeps those in stock. I'd give them a quick call.
