Anyone else addicted to Flixvault.net???

Well, now that they're using BitTorrent it takes FOREVER to download videos, I've tried three times for a couple hours each time and never get more than halfway.

Is it just me, anything I can do to speed things up?

Unfortunately, your download speed depends on how fast you can get uploaded to (assuming it does not exceed the maximum download rate of your Internet connection). With Bittorrent software, you are downloading from other people (as opposed to a dedicated server for when you download legal software and stuff off of websites). As most people have cable modem or some form of high-speed Internet, a lot of cable modem and DSL providers have very limited upload speeds.
Flixvault.net is being redesigned because of copyright issues or something along those lines. Just give it time and the original site will be back up. In fact, PhatBimmer (on this forum) is the Flixvault.net site owner or admin or something, so you can PM him if you want more details.

Oops good thing I visited the forum today [thumb].

Alright well I posted about this in another forum but heres a good spot as any. Were going to go back to hosting videos off the website like good old times via "direct server downloads". I'm really sorry about this bittorent crap but we've gotten letters from BBC2 stating that what were doing was not legitamately legal [read] so we got scared and poof we wen't bittorent. We're going back though and as a part of going back to our old download system we're also renovating the website and the forums to further ease and please the fans of Top Gear. I'm sorry for any inconvinience and don't worry as Top Gear doesn't air until this Spring (probably March or April) so we will have the newest stuff up as soon as it comes out in Europe.

Thanks [wave]

Anything else you can ask me here or PM me

Well seeing some of our members showed me of something called grouper me and some of the members are starting sharing with "Grouper". Its small network sharing so you have to be invited to download the videos and such so if anyone has grouper which can be downloaded at www.grouper.com just send me a PM or post in the site and just message me your e-mail that you registered grouper with and I'll add you and you will have Top Gear shows full lenght or clips w/e u want [^]

Laterz [:)]

Here is the Grouper site that I set up for old Top Gear Videos [:)]

cool. the real issue w/ bittorrent is the number of seeds (complete files) if the downloading/ uploading community for a particular file is big, then you'll get a pretty fast dl speeds, esp if you haver more seeders than leechers (not yet complete files). i think the uploading ratio effecting dl is a load of crap. more often than not, your download speeds are capped by not having the appropriate ports open on the firewall. and then there is the plain ole, not having any seeders resulting in no dl.

direct dl is def the way to go, but it takes a toll on the host, and you'll have to keep buying bandwidth to keep up.

david, thanks for all the hard work, and once i get my comp situation somewhat settle, i'm a have to ask for the invite. is there an mac version of the app? (i'm currently using my emac as the torrent (azereus)/ all downloading machine, and running and dling multiple torrents grinds the fastest pc to a halt..

My friend in NJ got a notice from his cable operator that MGM had logged a complaint against him for downloading a movie using bittorrent. Can you believe that? It was supposedly a "warning" letter. But the big studios are scared to death they are up next after the music industry went down the tubes. Be careful!

Hah we've gotten a letter from BBC2 stating that what we were doing was exactly legal but what the hell, what can they do to me? Spank me? Were not getting any money for it and its a show thats publicaly aired so I don't know I still want to continue sharing. :D Not to worry guys, if something goes wrong you'll be the second to know lol

Grouper isn't available for Apple yet but in the future will. I will try to host some videos using yousendit.com [:)]
