A one-off special-bodied Ferrari Enzo, designed for a wealthy car collector by the Pininfarina studio, has gone for its first test drives in Italy.
The car was commissioned by American Ferrari enthusiast James Glickenhaus at a cost of around $3m. Called P4/5, it's a modern reinterpretation of the 1967 Ferrari 330 P/4 racer.
Glickenhaus is said to have delivered his own 330 P/4 to Pininfarina, along with an Enzo and asked of the company could combine the looks of the classic with the mechanicals of the state-of-the-art Enzo. The Enzo's chassis and powertrain have remained unchanged, but every body panel and most of the original cabin has been replaced for a curvier outline, improved aerodynamics and the retro design cues. The cockpit now features bespoke seats, exposed carbon fibre trim, a full roll cage, fire extinguishers plus worldwide GPS technology, improved air conditioning and an iPod audio system. Overall, the car is now nearly 200kg lighter than the standard Enzo, at 1200kg.
The P4/5 will make its first official public appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance next month. It is said to have been completed with full technical support from Ferrari, which has allowed Glickenhaus to keep the Ferrari badges on his car, which will be known as the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina
