Fake M3

I saw a car today with the M3 badge, but I noticed that it didn't have the M double exhaust. Then it pulled out of the parking space, and it didn't have the vents or the body kit of an M, either. Is it cool to stick M badges on non-Ms? Because I think that's just sick. [V]

There is a difference between a car with an M badge and an M3 badge. Some people place M badges on their cars if they have M parts (i.e. door seals, wheels, steering wheels, etc..). I think any car that is not a true M3 should not have an M3 badge on it AT ALL. Like Tom stated, "not very cool".

Personally I would not put an "M" badge on any car that was not a production "M" car. I know that you can order some cars with some "M" parts, but I would not want the badge if I were not a true "M". It is just my preference!

I think I'd have to agree on this one. I didn't even put the little //M stickers in the insets in my old //M wheels because it just didn't seem right.

Also in Europe they do badge with the //M if the car has M parts, it's almost looked upon as 'normal'. To each their own.. But I wouldn't do it, even if I built a car to outperform an M I wouldn't badge it as such.

it is the same thing as ricers and type"R" badges.
im not against putting the parts on though. it is an upgrade as far as im concerned. all you are doing is putting the motorsport parts on....but no badge please

i have a mixed feeling about the m stickers and badges and such. on the sports packages, they included m parts, thus they come w/ the m logo on it. i like the fact that it looks cool, but also dislike the fact that BMW is sort of over saturating the market w/ m emblems. sometimes people sit in my car and ask me if its an m. and i start off w/ an "i wish.. *sigh* then move on to explain "no, but due to this package, they put it in there.. blah blah.."

but at the end of the day, those that count really know what's going on.

Not cool at all, Here in Tokyo I see that very often specially in 318s. Like somebody already mentioned for those who are not familiar with these cars an M badge, may mean nothing and for those who knows, it is probably just a [hah] matter. Btw I joined just a few weeks ago and I have posted a few threads. I'd like to say that all the ideas and commmentary given by you guys in this forum have been for me very helpful. Thanks and keep those comments flowing[cheers]

I see it alot round here too, all E36s. I usually spot at least one a week, my heal will perk up when i see that front M3 bumper then the car passes and i almost become ashamed when I see the back and either still see the 325 badge there, or something, or it doesnt have the rear bumper, or something to clearly state that is not an M. [:(]

At least it still has the 325 badge on it, not like other cars that goes the full nine yards. I myself have a e36 325i and trying to get that M3 sporty look. I never liked the stock e36 325i side door mouldings so I ordered the "///M" one not the "///M3" a couple of months back. Getting the "///M3" one doesn't feel right putting on a 325i. Also I have the M3 side mirrors since it reduces wind noise at high speeds as of what I heard from the bulky e36 stock mirrors. My friend keeps on telling me to just add that M3 badge to my car [screwy] ... I should beat some sense into him.
