Can anyone tell me where I can find more information about doing a euro-delivery on a car? Not any car in particular. My dad is looking at getting a car via euro-delivery. He wants to know the kind of prices to expect, pros and cons. The main reason is so that the car costs less, is this true? Will the car cost less if we do a euro-delivery then just buying it at a local dealer?

Thanks.

There is a discount. A certain percent off of MSRP. Usually it's worth it. You just have to schedule it quite a bit in advance b/c the car is gonna be built for you vs. off the lot. I'd do it the next time if I had time. You get to drive it on the roads it was designed for, nice european vacation, get the break in period out of the way before your car even gets to your house. Only negative is having to wait so long for your car and finding the time for a week vacation or so and then having a second wait for your car to be shipped over.

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure you have to actually show up there and pick it up. Your vacation can be as short as you want but I think you actually have to fly over there to get the discount (which is up to 7% according to the BMW website).

Can this be done without the vacation? Just order it and have it recieved here?
I did Euro Delivery back in April of this year. You get a 7% discount on the base price of the car ONLY. All options are at full list. Dealers will not negotiate any additional discounts beyond the ED price as far as I know. 7% on mine was about $3000, you can't get that much off by any amount of negotiating with most dealers for a car on the lot.

The main reason for doing ED should not be to save money. You MUST make the trip. The reason BMW does the program is to generate tourism revenue for Germany as part of "giving back" to the country. It wouldn't make any sense to allow ED without actually making the trip. Otherwise, everyone would do it just to get the discount.

They require the car to be paid for 30 days in advance of the trip, and they require a photocopy of your passport upon ordering. The passport copy is sent to the Delivery Center, and you must then show your passport upon arrival. For their safety and yours, they make sure you are the owner.

After you take delivery of the car, you must take it to EH Harms, their shipping agent. Note that BMW does not actually process the car for shipping to the US. They take care of all the arangements, paperwork, etc. but you must take the car to an EH Harms shipping office, the closest is about 12 km North of the Delivery Center. It then gets put on the same boat with all of the other new BMWs that were shipped from the factory.

Pros - price savings, great experience, great trip
Cons - Will cost more than you save if you let a travel agent plan the trip, it takes alot of time to plan it yourself, waiting 6 weeks for the car after you picked it up in Germany.

If your goal was only to save money, you could try to get a $300 - $400 airfare for one person, fly over, take delivery and drive right to EH Harms, and take the next flight home.

But think about this:
Air Fare for 4 to Germany - $2000
Taxi cab from Airport to BMW Delivery Center - $40
New BMW 330cic - $45,000
Driving your new BMW with your family on the Autobahn for a week - PRICELESS

If you have any questions, just ask. Do the trip, you and your Dad will love it!
