I was nervous about cleaning my engine.. but i figured what the hell.. so went to the car wash, and sprayed the engine with simply green cleaner.. then washed it lightly with the rinse from the car wash.. started the engine and it was all good.. any other ideaas that people have involving cleaning the engine please let me know..

Thanks

Ever since the introduction of individual coil packs for engines (ie no more distributor) an engine could almost be submerged in water and still run if there was a snorkel.

I usually cover my electrical areas with a plastic bag and clean the engine with soap and water using a soft towel and sponge. Then I rinse it off and dry it down with a large cotton towel.

I've done the same R3...about once a year or so. No problems here. I'm careful not to let the high pressure get too close to anything so no damage is done.

And I thought I was meticulous.

Then again, if I had an M3 I'd probably be the same.

Isn't there a specific engine cleaner spray you can buy, as well? Just spray your engine and then dry off with a towel and it's clean...supposed to be less risky than spraying water all over the engine compartment.
