It's definitely an amazing looking car in person. Can't say that I agree with the auctioning of the opportunity to buy one though. I think it's ridiculous that some dealers charge a surcharge on new cars because they are new and desirable.
That seems pretty dumb considering you can just search for "2004 BMW 645" and it will return lots of results of dealerships selling the ACTUAL car! This car is nice, but ugly for the most part, but I know it will sell like crazy because it has the BMW logo on it.
The dealership here in OKC sold a 645 at a benefits auction for $100K. I saw it when they were preping it (the buyer was there to pick it up) and it was a beautiful car. I don't know if the exhaust is different, but it sounded bad a$$!
I think my local dealerships might already have them on the lot. Ok, check that. Just checked their online inventory. They already DO have them on the lots. More coupes than converts but they've got both. Those fancy electronic billboards they have are advertising them already too. Prolly with like an $8000 markup tho knowing those two dealers.
You know what? I hate it when dealerships do markups on hot new cars. I think it is very stupid to pay over MSRP for a car...no car is worth paying over MSRP. I don't mind paying MSRP too much, assuming the car is very new and very hot, but paying significantly more than that is just ridiculous. NO car is worth more than its MSRP.
To pay $100K for a 645 is just ridiculous. I mean, if this guy wants to pay $20K over MSRP for his car for a benefit, he can write a $20K check to the MrElussive Fund For A Future BMW M4.
Mr E - It was a BENEFITS AUCTION. All the proceeds went to a non profit organization, so I believe that, in this case, it was justified. Most people's parents don't have enough money to pay medical bills, let alone for a $600/month G35, so some people donate money to help the less fortunate.
The stupidest dealer markup I know of was when the Chrysler dealer in Greenville, SC was tacking an extra $4000 onto the price of the PT Cruiser when it first came out. People in Greenville were actually paying $4000 above the MSRP for PT Cruisers!! Now they can't give them away!
The same thing is happening with the TBird. They were selling them above list when they first shipped. This weekend a local dealer had a new one for $29K saying it was over $10,000 below MSRP.
645 is NOT by any means a "purty" car. I sat in one at a German dealership the day it was released. 90,000 euro for that beast was not worth it. Just my opinion and you know what they about opinions and mine doesn't smell any better. For 35,000 to 50,000 dollars the car might spark an interest. Who would buy that beast of a car for 100,000 dollars when you could buy a new Porche that would spank it any way for the same money.

I saw $8000-$10,000 markups on the PT Cruisers around here when they first came out. I was laughing cuz it's a Dodge Neon that costs as much as a BMW. The T-Birds also consistently had $10,000 markups when they were first out. Now they can't give away either of those cars. If you're gonna pay a markup, at least only do it no a car that will retain value like on an M car or something. Paying above sticker on any domestic or sub-$100K Porsche is just stupid cuz in a few months it'll be at sticker or even less.
