E46 325i has shat its pants again.

Some of you might've read my thread about 1 week ago relating to the misbehaviour of my mum's E46 325i manual whereupon start-up it would rev manically between 500 and 2,000 rpm. Application of the throttle had absolutely no effect on engine revs and the car was utterly undriveable.

Turns out the car had a faulty wiring loom which connects the accelerator signal to the ECU. The car was back to normal until today when it did exactly the same thing on startup. The problem is that, this time, the car has decided to play funny buggers down at the beach; some 100km away.

Not only do BMW have to drive a truck down and ship it all the way back up to Melbourne but they'll have to do a more thorough examination of the car. Needless to say, my dad is supremely pissed off which is fair enough given the recent problems we've had with the stupid fly-by-wire system on the car. This will be the fourth time in a little over a month that the car has had to be taken away.

WTF has happened to BMW? All this shit I read in magazines and on this board point to the fact that since Bangle pissed all over BMW's tasteful design philosophies there has been a simultaneous drop in reliability and driver-involvement. Seems to me that the more cars BMW produce the less desireable and reliable they've become.

I love the E46 to bits but this sort of thing really wears thin. I just don't know what BMW are doing anymore and I feel that they're in the slow but agonizing process of ruining the terrific image of a once-desireable brand.

BMW (and in fairness, many other car manufacturers) have missed an important concept - just because you CAN use technology to automate something doesn't mean you SHOULD.

MB admitted this last year and said they were removing something like 90 "features" from their cars. When will BMW realize this? [slap]

^^^This is exactly what I'm on about. There is so much needless technology packed into the new BMWs that it's wreaking havoc with their reliability/useability. It's SO annoying!

BMW's and their problems are nothing new. Mercedes has its problems and so does Audi. The fact is, as much as this new technology in cars helps, it also equals death. [xx(]

There is more than one lemon in every car companies fruit basket. I have owned two different E46 body styles and didn't have a major, or to be honest, a minor problem with either of them. I agree, it does seem as thought BMW is having it's share of troubles, but I don't think it is any worst than any of the other car manufactures. You/we are just more conscious of these problems, because you/we own or are BMW enthusiasts. This is just my opinion take it as you will....

BMW does have a lot of new tech in them, and yes i do think quality has gone down in the new Bangle designs, i think Bangle needs to be monitored more and some stuff needs to be of a higher quality, and from waht i've seen the problems do not show up that often......

I thought Bangle does body style and design. Does he have a hand in the engine, transmission, suspension, instrument cluster etc ?
