Hi Guys (& Gals) ...
My first post so be gentle with me [bigcry]
I have a 2000 E39 and after a year of putting up with the factory fitted ICE I recently changed the HU (Alpine) and although that made a significant improvement I have just added a 12" sub (JL) & amp (Magnat mono) which are in the boot (trunk for you non colonial types!)
I have had a number of different bits of advice about fine tuning the system - my E39 does not have a ski hatch (or removable plate to use the ski hatch) which is usually considered a good way of letting more bass into the cabin form the sub - one ICE dealer suggested I remove the rear speakers from the parcel shelf as this would allow more bass through and the rear speakers are rubbish! I must admit the way I have the system set up I dont really hear the rears but wonder if removing them will have a beneficial effect?
This seems like a nice friendly forum & I look forward to hearing from you ... Paul [;)]

that guy you talked to is correct.

do you go to a concert and turn your back to the band? then why do you want to hear sound behind you? thats my take.

take out the rear speakers, and the bass will sound much better, been there done that.

jszar - thanks for that - next question is how easy is it to remove the said speakers & do I need to do anything with the wires other than tuck them away?
Paul [cheers]

yes, but bandpass boxes are shit for sound quality. they only play frequencies from 60-100Hz with any clarity at all. they add about 7dB over sealed though, thats why they are used over ported and sealed in dB drags. for quality, sealed is the only way to go. also, bandpass boxes are ass heavy. they wiegh a minimum of 50lbs for a smaller one, and as much as 120lbs for a bigger better one. they are not practical in any way.

did you build yours to specs with your subs? or is it a prefab?

if it isnt tuned correctly, and the correct volume for your subs, you risk damage to the driver and cone. if you bought a prefab at a store, then i garuntee you it isnt the correct size for your subs.
