Last night i got to drive my friends brand new WRX, it had about 300 miles on it. I went into it thinking it wouldnt be that great, but damn i was impressed, comparred to my 318is i would take the WRX any day, the 5speed transmission was smooth. I could really see myself drving this as a everyday car, it did not have the power like my Z but it was a sweet ride. Smoooth and it handled really well.....ohh yah it was raining.....has anyone recently gotten any chances to drive any brand new cars? I am going in next week to drive an STi. This subaru dealer here really knows how to treat their customers...my friend who bought the WRX paid 22,500 and retail is around 26,00 for his package. Next week when we take his wrx in to get a short throw shifter subaru is letting us take the STi out while we wait.........has anyone gotten a chance to drive a STi yet?

I test drove a new Saab 9-3 Linear 5 speed with the low-pressure turbo the other week and was highly impressed by the car. Very smooth power delivery, surprising amount of get-up-and-go, great handling, absolutely amazing brakes, very comfortable both front and back seats, and extremely quiet on the interstate.

Two guys I work with took a WRX out for a ride a few months ago. They *really* liked it. One of them told the saleman he was serious about buying it and wanted to push it (he used to race midget cars). He had it in a 4 wheel drift around several corners, the salesman was actually digging it and laughing! My buddy was seriously thinking about it until he saw the new Mustang Cobra in Motor Trend. Now he's waiting to drive it before he decides.

I really like the WRX! It's a really great car, stock...but there is also a large tuning market for it. You can easily mod the WRX to smoke a Porsche 911 !!!

I read the the stock WRX and the EVO VIII both smoked the M3 And the 2003 Mustang Cobra. Any truth tto that? All cars were stock...of course.

In a short drag street race, that's true. The AWD and lower weight gives it an advantage off the line that will kick any 2WD car's butt. But in a full 1/4 mile, the normally aspirated horsepower of the M3 or Mustang should make them the winner, although I haven't actually checked 1/4 mile ETs.

I have seen WRX and M3 runs at AutoX meets run the same course. With equal drivers, the M3 times seem to be equal or better. The Mustang is not so lucky.

I wonder how they would hold up against a GT 500 Cobra...U Know ELENOR. Maybe in top end but the 427 HP's of the GT 500 and the crazy amount of torque that thing had......
Don't know man?????????

It did, the M3 gets to 60 in 4.8 seconds the Sti did it in 4.9. Both are manufacter claims. I would take the M3 over the Sti.

They run the same courses but different classes. With equal drivers the M3 will almost always do better. The only exception is if the track is slow speed due to very tight turns, no straights or slaloms, etc. In other words, it would be possible to design a road course that gave the WRX an advantage due to AWD and then it could beat an M3. But I don't think that's gonna happen!

If you watch some of the Speed Channel road races, the AWD Audis punch thru the grid at the start of the race, but the M3s still kick their butts once the field opens up.

Try test driving an EVO VIII, take it to a corner, and floor it.. It'll whip around the corner like there's no tomorrow. I was considering getting a WRX, prior to the BMW. Sometimes, I wish I had gotten the WRX, but now. My next car might be an EVO VIII, or a 350Z.

I like the SUbie more than the Evo. My neighbor has an Evo and I just can't warm up to it for some reason. When his lil bro finally gets the Subie like he's planning, I'll be able to compare them back to back.
